Lupus

Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease and an autoimmune disorder that can affect various parts of the body. Primarily it affects the skin, joints, kidney, and brain. It causes the immune system to become hyper active. With lupus, the immune system confuses antigens with healthy tissue, attacking and killing both. Inflammation (which regularly plays a role of protection when dealing with an injured or infected body) causes destruction, thickening and scarring of healthy tissue. Symptoms include chronic pain (in all parts of the body), swelling (lymph nodes, hands, feet), mood changes, mouth sores, rashes, weight loss, anxiety, seizures, nausea weight loss and long term tissue damage.

Cannabis is ideal for helping Lupus patients cope with symptoms such as nausea, inflammation, and pain. Cannabis increases the levels of anti-inflammatory protein interleukin-10 while decreasing the levels of pro-inflammatory protein interleukin-2. It alsp has been shown to suppress the immune system by activating myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), which calms the hyperactive immune system in lupus patients. Additionally, it may provide relief from the abdominal cramping which typically accompanies commonly prescribed drugs for lupus.

Relief has been reported from ingesting hemp products such as hemp seeds and hemp milk, likely because of hemp’s high levels of Cannabigerol (CBG), which helps with bone tissue regrowth. It has also been found that ingesting cannabis oil or other cannabis products high in CBD on a regular basis is a highly effective treatment. You may also medicate using transdermal patches or pens containing CBD. If butterfly rashes are a present symptom marijuana salves have proven useful in clearing them, as well as in preventing symptomatic pain like sore joints. The CBC transdermal compound by Mary’s Medicinals may prove especially effective due to CBC’s anti-inflammatory benefits and ability to regrow bone tissue (bone tissue death occurs in around 10% of lupus patients). Raw Cannabis juicing is another option for symptom relief, although the fresh plant may be hard to obtain unless you are a grower. If you desire to switch from your regular medication to a purely cannabis based approach it is important that you take in high doses of CBDrich medicine, whether it be tinctures, patches, or oils you choose to use.
